Vomiting is the involuntary action of the body to empty the contents of the stomach through the mouth. Vomit is made up of half-digested food from your stomach, stomach mucus, saliva, stomach acids and other chemicals that help you digest food. Bile is green in color – which is why vomit is usually yellowy green in color. Bile is not created in your stomach, it is created in the intestines - when an individual vomits the bile comes from further down in the digestive system. The nasty smell associated with vomiting can also be blamed on bile and stomach acids.

An upset stomach is another term for indigestion. When we eat, our bodies start the process of breaking down our food into molecules that we can use at a cellular level. Sometimes this process is hampered (food is not broken down properly, or wind is trapped in the stomach) and as a result, we feel certain symptoms.

The gallbladder is connected to the liver by the hepatic duct. This pear-shaped organ is small, approximately 3 to 4 inches and about 1 inch wide. It acts as a storage facility for liver bile, which helps to digest food. Bile contains cholesterol, bile salts, lecithin, and other substances.

Tapeworms are described as long, segmented worms that primarily live in the intestinal tract of humans and often in the bodies of animals. These parasitic worms belong to the class of Cestoda. Tapeworm infections may be caused by one of the tapeworm species and these include the pork tapeworm (Taenia solium), beef tapeworm (Taenia saginata), dwarf tapeworm (Hymenolepis nana) or fish tapeworm (Diphyllobothrium4 latum).

An ulcer is a sore or lesion that develops in the tissue lining of the stomach or duodenum. The stomach produces stomach acids such as pepsin and hydrochloric acid to digest the food. If these stomach acids and digestive juices injure and corrode the stomach’s lining of protective mucus, then an ulcer may form. Ulcers in the stomach are known as stomach or gastric ulcers while those found in the duodenum are called duodenal ulcers. They can develop at any age, but are generally uncommon amongst children and teenagers. Stomach ulcers tend to affect people over the age of 60, particularly more women than men.

Pinworms are described as tiny, white, thread-like worms that can live in the bowels. Children under the age of ten years old are extremely susceptible to these types of worms but they can affect adults. They are not harmful and easily treatable.

The colon is part of the body’s digestive system. The colon, or large intestine, forms part of the end portion of the human gastrointestinal (GI) tract which extends from the mouth to the anus. The colon is about 5 feet long and begins at the end of the small intestine or small bowel, and ends where it joins the rectum.The colon is a vital organ; important to the health and proper cleansing of the bodyas it expels waste material from the body.

Generally, women expect that the birth of a child will be a blissful and joyous time, and most often it is. Meeting their new baby and bringing this new little life into their home is an exciting event. However, the period following child birth does not always conform to this happy and expected picture. In reality, feelings of sadness and periods of melancholy can affect a new mother, without warning.

A urinary tract infection (also referred to as a UTI) is a bacterial infection affecting the urinary tract. When bacteria from the rectal area enter the urinary tract via the urethra to the bladder and multiply in the urine, an infection occurs.
